So large berries like cherries, strawberries and grapes are not nearly as medicinally potent as tiny berries like cranberries, black raspberries, red raspberries, acai and red currants. The more vibrant the color of the berry, the more medicine it contains. Strong or bright colors indicate higher density of natural medicine.
To get the most benefits, eat a large diversity of berries on a regular basis. Don't just stick to eating or drinking one type of berry. Instead, seek out a wide variety of berries and other superfruits.

That's a much higher reduction than I thought we'd see," Stoner said, "This suggests that berries bind up a good portion of free radicals, preventing them from causing damage in the body."
Black raspberries are rich in vitamins A, C, E, and folic acid and contain the minerals selenium, zinc, and calcium. In addition, black raspberries have a higher content of anthocyanins than most other berry types, as well as phenols, such as ellagic, coumaric and ferulic acid. All of these substances are recognized as "chemopreventive agents," Stoner said. |

Just go out, eat some fresh roots like carrots and radishes, get yourself some fresh greens such as spinach, broccoli and kale, and eat fresh berries in large quantities -- blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries. While you're at it, by the way, you could chew on some wholesome nuts like almonds, cashews or my favorite: macadamia nuts.
And if you did all of this on a daily basis without consuming the processed foods common to western societies, you would likely find that you don't need any prescription drugs whatsoever. |

This study underscores the need to include more berries in the diet, especially blueberries," said study leader Bandaru Reddy, Ph.D., a professor in the chemical biology department at Rutgers. Although the blueberry compound won't cure colon cancer, it represents a strategy for preventing the disease naturally, said Reddy, who specializes in studying the relationship between nutrition and colon cancer.
The researchers studied 18 rats in which colon cancer had been induced in a manner similar to human colon cancer development. |

We do know from epidemiologic studies that vegetable and fruit consumption is protective against cancer and, from our work, we would suggest that berries be one of those helpings, at least two or three times a week," said Stoner.
Clinical trials are underway to examine the potential of black raspberries to prevent esophageal and colon cancer in humans. Stoner and his team have begun analyzing the effects of the fruit in people with Barrett's esophagus (a condition of the esophagus that increases risk of esophageal cancer) and precancerous colon polyps. |

But no, instead it's all about how can we exploit this naturally occurring chemical compound and use it to make some bucks for corporate investors. That's the way big pharma works. |

Excellent choices include all of the berries (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and strawberries), avocados (which are technically a fruit, but will be discussed in more detail later), kiwi, oranges, papaya and mangos.
Remember, if you crave fruits and want to minimize the impact on your blood sugar and production of insulin, you can always eat high fiber or high-fat foods before the fruits in order to slow the digestion and assimilation of those fruit sugars. In essence, by frontloading your stomach with fiber or fat, you are decreasing the glycemic index of the fruits you consume. |

So you've got blueberries and raspberries together here -- it's a little bit like eating a few berries from the orchard. If you can get one of these food bars into your body every day, you're going to be giving yourself the benefits without having to walk outside and pick fruits off a bush. Now obviously it would be more beneficial if you could get all of these ingredients in their fresh, unprocessed form. It would be better to eat a lot of fresh, whole blueberries or raspberries or wheat grass juice and so on. But that's not practical for most of us. |

But if you're growing your own berries, such as blueberries, you can see even greater health benefits. Research has shown blueberries are even more effective at lowering LDL cholesterol levels than statin drugs. And now, with these upcoming aeroponic growing systems, consumers finally have a realistically simple way to grow their own berries. |

In our hospitals, we need to eliminate the junk food restaurants and the processed foods, and we need to visit the patient rooms with plates full of fresh berries so that patients can eat these berries. We need to open up the windows and let some sunshine and fresh air into those rooms. We need to bring in some healing superfoods and let patients munch all day long on the foods that we know prevent chronic disease. While we're at it, we need to kick McDonald's restaurants and soft drink vending machines out of our hospitals and public schools, too. |

Soap berries are grown without pesticides. All soap berries are naturally organic. (Because bugs don't like to eat soap.) Their cultivation is earth-friendly and sustainable, which is in great contrast to the chemical production of laundry detergent which pollutes our waters, soils and bodies. Soap berry saponins can even be used to cleanse the soil and help rid it of toxic substances.
You can even make a natural garden pesticide out of soap berries, and use it to protect your plants from pests without poisoning your food or soil. |
